Abstract
Extensive configuration interaction wavefunctions have been calculated and used to evaluate probabilities of transitions from 3p44p 4Po5/2, 4Do5/2, 4D07/2 and 2Do5/2 levels in Ar II, from which the lifetimes of these levels are deduced. The lifetimes of these levels have recently been obtained experimentally to high accuracy using the cascade-free beam-dye-laser technique. These results are the first set of calculated lifetimes for Ar II which agree consistently closely with accurate experimental values. Keywords
