Weak force detection using a double Bose-Einstein condensate
Abstract
We propose a scheme to detect weak forces by employing a Bose-Einstein condensate confined to a double-well potential. The scheme utilizes the macroscopic occupation of a single quantum state to enable a precise measurement. This is done by initially manipulating the condensate into a coherent superposition of the extremal eigenstates of the condensate particle-number difference between two wells. The limitations of accuracy in the scheme are analyzed, and this confirms that the high-precision measurement of weak forces can be achieved if the condensate contains a large number of coherently condensed atoms. Keywords
