Abstract
A 29-year-old male had a liposarcoma in the right maxillary region, a rare tumor. Multidisciplinary treatment continued for 6 years and 10 months. Treatment included two radical operations, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, cryosurgery and laser surgery. For this localized liposarcoma, tumor extirpation was considered to be the most effective therapy. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy were also effective for recurrences. Cryosurgery was easily applied without any side-effects and reduced tumor volume. However, the tumor relapsed repeatedly 5 months before death, in spite of extensive resection of the right facial bones and the right eye.Autopsy confirmed the recurrent tumor and revealed micrometastasis in the regional lymphnodes. Although intracranial invasion by the tumor had been suspected clinically, neither direct invasion nor hematogenic metastasis present in the brain. Inflammatory changes and a brain abscess were found. Keywords
