Study of the Rectangular-Like Output Waveforms of a 720 kV Coaxial Marx Generator

Abstract
The mechanism of generation of unique output voltages of a low-inductance coaxial Marx generator, developed for producing relativistic electron beams or ion beams, is investigated using an equivalent circuit in which two kinds of stray capacitance are taken into account. One of these is that which exists between each Marx module and the Marx outer conductor, and the other is that which exists between the two electrodes of the spark gap. The former capacitance is found to be useful for generating rectangular-like output voltages, which the latter capacitance is found to be harmful.
