Abstract
The purpose of this communication is to inform members of the mathematical programming (MP) community of some advances -- past, present, and future -- which should have a noticeable impact upon applications involving nonlinear programming (NLP). These advances have not been in the theoretical area, as is usually the case, but rather they have come in the area of computer software and hardware designed with nonlinear programming in mind. Keywords
