Abstract
Two sources of the androgenic factor in cow feces were investigated: incubated pregnant cow feces, and bile from pregnant cattle. One sample of the cow feces was extracted immediately, a 2i was incubated for one week, and a 3d was incubated for 2 weeks. Spectrophotometric studies were made to determine if changes in the 17-ketosteroids in the androgenic fraction were noted. No significant changes were found, showing that the bacterial flora does not increase the 17-ketosteroids during incubation. Extracts from bile of pregnant cattle showed a demonstrable quantity of androgenic substance when applied topically to the combs of 2-day-old Single Comb White Leghorn male chicks.
