Abstract
Contaminants which reflect exposure to automobile exhaust, including nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, total hydrocarbons, respirable particulates, and lead, in addition to the general contaminant, sulfur dioxide, were sampled at traffic officer work stations in Boston. Sampling was conducted with a portable instrument which could be positioned at the street location. Seasonal data collected at 16 representative work stations revealed the expected diurnal and seasonal trends in these contaminants, and demonstrated that street level air sampling is needed to accurately measure the exposure of traffic officers to automobile exhaust. Keywords
