Abstract
Three streams covered by an aerial application of Zectran® (4-dimethylamino-3,5-xylyl methylcarbamate) at a rate of 0.15 lb per acre showed no reductions in numbers or diversity of insects in bottom collections when compared to prespray collections in the same streams and to other untreated streams. Numbers and diversity in drift collections were reduced, however, and the effect persisted through the summer. The overall effects appeared minor and temporary when compared to previous similar studies involving other insecticides. One of the streams treated with Zectran had also been covered with different insecticide applications in 3 years since it was first sampled in 1964. There was no evidence of cumulative effects of the 4 applications on numbers or diversity of insects. Keywords
