Abstract
A technique for direct measurement of histamine release in rats is descr. Dextran, egg-white and 48-80 all produced release of bound C14 histamine. Histamine-depleted rats did not bind exogenous C14 histamine. Depleted rats showed no abnormality in the rate of binding histamine in the abdominal skin. Treatment of rats with aminoguanidine, which largely prevents the destruction of histamine, followed by 48-80, produced hemorrhagic inflammation of the stomach. The significance of this observation is discussed. Keywords
