Abstract
' The monoterpenes of the leaf oils from eight species and three subspecies or cultivars of Juniperus and four species of Thuja grown under the same conditions in England have been analysed by gas–liquid chromatography and the main components have been isolated and characterised. Where comparison is possible, the patterns are broadly similar to those obtained by previous workers using specimens of the particular species grown in Central Asia, North America or Continental Europe. The Juniperus species investigated fell into two groups: one produced predominantly pinane derivatives (especially α–pinene), whereas the other produced mainly sabinane derivatives (especially sabinene). Keywords
