Hospital Management of Pit Viper Venenations

Abstract
Most previous articles about snakebite treatment have spent more time in describing first-aid measures than they have in describing the hospital management of snakebite victims. Thus, many questions about the defiitive management of pit viper venenations remain unanswered. This paper answers such questions as when to discontinue first aid treatment, how to test patients for horse serum (antivenin) sensitivity, how to desensitize a patient, how much antivenin to give and by what route of administration, and what the complications of snakebites and snakebite treatment are.
