Special Series

Abstract
It is the intent of this series of articles, which will appear in alternate issues of the journal, to define, describe and illustrate laboratory techniques which can be utilized with precision and cost-effectiveness in an office setting for the diagnosis of common pediatric infectious diseases. Because of the ever increasing availability of commercial products for the office laboratory, only basic principles and techniques will be emphasized which can then serve as a reference standard when considering the relative advantages and disadvantages of new technology.
