Abstract
In a review of the literature concerning buspirone's effect on sexual functioning three hypotheses are presented: 1. Buspirone's facilitation of sexual functioning is not due solely to its anxiolytic effects; 2. Buspirone facilitates non-paraphilic arousal but inhibits paraphilic sexual arousal; 3. Buspirone's efficacy in reducing paraphilic arousal is related to its efficacy in reducing obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms. Evidence in support of these hypotheses is presented and suggestions for further research are provided. Keywords
