HEMODIALYSIS IN THE HOME — A FAMILY AFFAIR

Abstract
With the development of simpler and safer hemodialysis techniques has come an increased demand for long-term dialysis as a means of maintaining or prolonging the life of patients with end-stage kidney disease. Because of the financial and logistic demands placed on the medical center by the increased dialysis load and because it is our opinion that the care and financial responsibility of such patients should be shared by the community, we have instituted a program of chronic hemodialysis in the home. A preliminary report has appeared(1).
