A Convenient 137Cs Unit for Irradiating Cell Suspensions and Small Laboratory Animals

Abstract
A Cs137 unit for irradiating cell suspensions and small laboratory animals is described. A 25 cm diameter X 4 cm high container is placed in an opening in a lead drawer and is moved midway between 2 1000 curies Cs137 sources. Lead compensating filters above and below the capsule hold the field to 116.[plus or minus]4 rads/min within the container and the lead shielding of the unit is sufficient to permit its use in an unshielded laboratory.
