Abstract
Three different causes are concluded to contribute to the stabilisation of montmorillonite sols by polymeric phosphates, sodium metasilicate and sodium oxalate: a charging effect due to adsorption of the anions to the edges of the micelle plates. a decrease of the sodium ion activity in the mixture of stabilizer and flocculating salt. an inactivation of strongly flocculating calcium ions by complex formation or precipitation. Keywords
