Abstract
Summary: Extracts of 27 Israeli plants were examined for hemagglutinins. Of these 12 were inactive and 12 extracts agglutinated red cells of all blood groups. One extract lysed red cells of all blood groups. Two extracts showed a specific activity: Crotalaria aegyptiaca was active against A1 and A2 cells. Tetragonolobus palaestinus agglutinated O cells only. Extracts of Datura metel, Tetragonolobus palaestinus and Crotalaria aegyptiaca contained a protein active in hemagglutination. These three extracts varied in their sensitivity to heat and had a different optimal temperature for agglutination. A method for concentration of the hemagglutinating substances of Datura metel is described. Keywords
