The Four-Day/Forty-Hour Week: Who Wants It?

Abstract
Attitudes toward 4/40 work schedules were studied for 1,401 mid-level exempt personnel who worked a 5/40 schedule. Significant relationships were found between 4/40 attitudes and organizational, individual, environmental, and affective variables. However, only a small proportion (7 percent) of the 4/40 attitude variance was accounted for. It was suggested that decisions to adopt 4/40 schedules should include consideration of technological and market factors.
