Abstract
The effects of artificial expiratory airway obstruction on pulmonary compliance, work of breathing, and pressure-flow relationships have been studied in five normal young males at rest and during treadmill exercise. The finding of a significant decrease in compliance during resistance breathing strongly suggests that alterations in pulmonary blood volume have occurred.
