Abstract
The prevention of coronary heart disease is the largest challenge facing modern medicine, and the occupational health services offer unique opportunities for the development and application of solutions. But there is no guarantee at present that such measures will be effective and there is real danger that programmes of screening and prevention can become established without proper evaluation. A large, well designed controlled trial is urgently needed. A plan for conducting such a trial in British industry has been developed, with the support of the World Health Organisation and the Department of Health and Social Security. The present paper outlines the plan. Those interested in taking part, or in learning more about it, are invited to ask for further information. Keywords
