Abstract
Induction of germination was antagonized by Phosphon (2,4-dichlorobenzyltributyl phosphonium chloride) and the antagonism was overcome by high doses of potassium gibberellate but not red radiation. Since Phosphon was effective as an inhibitor of germination until shortly before protrusion of the radicle, it is suggested that some late step in the germination process is inhibited, possibly cell enlargement in the radicle.
