Abstract
The angular dependence of the surface anchoring energy of the nematic liquid crystal 5CB on a bistable surface is measured using a twist-cell method. Anchoring bistability is obtained by a grazing SiO evaporation on glass. The data obtained are in good agreement with the simplest fourth order expansion in terms of the order parameter. The bistable anchoring is weak. Keywords
