CHLOROQUINE IN HEPATIC AMEBIASIS

Abstract
Of seven patients with hepatic amebiasis treated with chloroquine, 4 followed the course of prompt recovery, previously described in the literature, and confirmed the effectiveness of chloroquine in hepatic amebiasis. Primary failure of the drug occurred in 3 patients. Subsequent success showed the importance of multiple factors in therapy and also indicated that diagnosis by therapeutic trial with chloroquine may not be feasible. No evidences of serious chloroquine toxicity were noted in this series.
