Theory of parity nonconservation in compound-nuclear states

Abstract
We show how to calculate the root-mean-square parity-violating matrix element M for a heavy nucleons of valence nucleon number Av in terms of a standard parity-violating interaction VPV. For large values of Av, we find a scaling law for M in terms of Av and the number of core nucleus. We compare our results to a recent measurement of M in U239, obtaining results that bracket the data for three previously determined parameter sets of VPV.
