Abstract
Mitral regurgitation can be caused by one or a combination of different anatomic lesions. Because of this the authors believe that the surgeon can be aided if the type of defect is known preoperatively. The present study of 240 patients with disease of the mitral valve revealed a significant number whose disease was limited to the mural cusp. Criteria for the bedside diagnosis of this type of mitral regurgitation are presented. Keywords
