Abstract
The angiographic findings of 50 patients with hypercholesterolemia undergoing partial ileal bypass operation were analyzed. The angiographic findings were correlated with the electrocardiograms, double Master's exercise electrocardiograms, and vectorcardiograms. The best correlation with coronary angiography of these 3 modalities may be the vectorcardiogram.Coronary angiography appeared to correlate well with the clinical symptomatology of angina pectoris. The severity of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease in hypercholesterolemic patients did not correlate with the relative preoperative serum cholesterol level, i.e., the degree of disease in patients with preoperative serum cholesterols below 400 mg. per cent was as severe as those with preoperative serum cholesterols above 400 mg. per cent. Evaluation in the same patient of peripheral arteriograms and coronary angiograms seems to indicate that atherosclerotic disease of the coronary arteries is often more pronounced and may precede disease of the aor...Keywords
