Abstract
A 4π proportional counter system capable of examining thin sources of extended area has been used to determine the half-life of τRb, which was found to be (5·25 ±; 0·10) × 1010 years. Corrections for absorption of electrons and for scattering in the source and in the source supporting foil are discussed. Keywords
