Abstract
The problems of reform and stability in a modernizing, multi‐ethnic society can be dealt with in broad theoretical terms, or one could focus on the specific problems of a particular “multi‐ethnic society.” In this article, the author attempts to combine these approaches, on the one hand setting forth some general concepts and propositions, and on the other, attempting to suggest what could be their relevance to South Africa. Keywords
