Abstract
241 pregnant women were treated with buccal oxytocin tablets (129) and buccal desaminooxytocin tablets (112) respectively with a view to the induction of labour (135) and the stimulation of labour (106). Delivery was achieved within 48 hours after 190 of the treatments (79%). It was found that the dilatation time was significantly shorter, and the dosage of biologically active compound required was less, for women treated with desaminooxytocin. Otherwise there was no significant difference between the results of treatment, and the frequency of side‐effects and complications was deemed to be of the same magnitude in the two treatment groups. Keywords
