Abstract
The effects of normally occurring intermediary metabolites on various collagen and gelatin preparations were studied. Only a few structurally analogous low molecular weight water-soluble aliphatic aldehydes of metabolic origin are capable of crosslinking polypeptide chains of the collagen type. The resulting molecules appear to have many if not all of the known properties of collagen molecules in aged and aging connective tissues. This publication has 16 references indexed in Scilit:
