Abstract
S. paradysenteriae and S. sonnei were found to form an inducible, "cryptic" [beta]-galactosidase. A strain of S. flexneri and a strain of S. dysenteriae formed minute traces of [beta]-galactosidase which may be qualitatively different from the Escherichia coli [beta]-galactosidase.Keywords
