Ingestion and Elimination of Cesium-134 by the Spider, Pardosa lapidicina1

Abstract
Ingestion, assimilation, and elimination rates of Pardosa lapidicina Emerton were determined in the laboratory using a radioactive tracer. Radioactivity was lost in a pattern termed a single component retention curve. We observed complete assimilation and a slow turnover rate for 134Cs. More differences than similarities were found when results for this spider were compared with those for other lycosid species. Possible adaptions to explain the generally low elimination coefficients observed in this species are discussed.
