Abstract
A further study of the responses of the IEEE questionnaire(1) regarding the various aspects of the problem of insulator contamination was made according to the general geographic and climatic area. Interesting information was revealed about the distribution of reported outages in the United States and Canada. It was found that problems either occur over a large region or are confined to a more or less well-defined spot. Hence, in the two countries surveyed, a differentiation was made between regioanl and spot contamination, though the latter type is not complete. The performance of transmission system insulation in various geographic regions has been analyzed regarding the effects of contamination. Industrial pollution seems to have more serious effects than the geographically more outspread natural contamination. Keywords
