Nitrofurazone for the Prevention of Experimentally Induced Eimeria tenella Infections in Chickens

Abstract
Seven tests involving 947 chickens were performed. When the drug was administered in the mash at a level of 0.0216% for 7 days starting at the time of inoculation, or within 2 days after in-oculation mortality was reduced and weight losses were less severe. When the 7-day treatment was started 2 days before or 3 days after inoculation there was little benefit. Nitrofurazone admn. in the mash at a level of 0.0108 or 0.0112% continuously for 28 days while the chickens were exposed to contaminated feed and litter gave partial protection and did not interfere with the development of resistance.
