Abstract
In the Yuma Valley region the malachiid beetle, Collops marginellus, and the egg parasite, Telenomus mesillae, destroyed approx. 2/3 of Euschistus impictiventris eggs on cotton; the former was more than twice as effective as the latter. Active 1st-instar nymphs were also killed by Zelus renardii and Sinea undulata (Hemiptera). Parasitization of Chlorochroa sayi eggs by T. mesillae increased from 6.9% on alfalfa in July to 95.9% on grain sorghums in Oct.; Ooencyrtus johnsoni and T. podisi were also reared in small numbers. C. marginellus was unable to penetrate the heavier egg shell of C. sayi. Only 1.8% of adult C. sayi were parasitized by Gymnosoma fuliginosum (Tachinidae), which deposits its eggs beneath the scutellum while the bug is in flight. The leaf-mining larvae of Bucculatrix thurberiella were heavily parasitized by Closterocerus utahensis in Sept. and Oct., and 24.2% of the cocoons yielded the following parasites: Catolaccus aeneoviridis, Spilochalcis side, Haltichella n. sp., and Hormius n. sp.
