Abstract
A numerical method for the prediction of oil-film and metal surface temperatures is given for the case of lubricated rolling contacts with sliding. Near-Hertzian conditions occurring in gears, discs and cams are considered and the temperature distributions, viscosity variations, and the heat partition values are calculated for a range of operating conditions. An asymmetry in the heat generation across the oil film is indicated and the effect of compression on the temperatures reached and the heat partition is also investigated. Keywords
