Abstract
Journals published by the American Physical Society can be found at http://publish.aps.org/The N-14(Be-7,B-8)C-13 reaction was studied using an 85 MeV Be-7 radioactive beam. The asymptotic normalization coefficients for the virtual transitions Be-7+pB-8 were determined from the measured cross section. These coefficients specify the amplitude of the tail of the B-8 overlap function in the Be-7+ p channel, and were used to calculate the astrophysical S factor for the direct capture reaction Be-7(p,gamma)B-8 at solar energies S-17(0). We find that S-17(0) = 16.6 +/- 1.9 eV b. [S0556-2813(99)01111-5]Keywords
