Determination of metals in poly(vinyl chloride) by atomic absorption spectrometry. Part 4. Determination of lead and aluminium in samples of poly(vinyl chloride) with a high content of silicates

Abstract
Treatment with H2SO4 and H2O2 of poly(vinyl chloride) samples containing silicates precipitates silica. This precipitate can be dissolved in ammonia solution and the addition of EDTA prevents hydroxide formation. The mass of sample and volume of ammonia solution are critical. Under suitable conditions, the procedure is fast and simple, and lead and aluminium can be determined satisfactorily.
