Abstract
Commutating capacitor voltage and current equations are derived for the commutation period of the main and auxiliary SCRs. The circuit turn-off time is computed as a function of x, where x is the ratio of the maximum load current to be commutated to the peak discharge current of the commutating capacitor. A suitable choice of x is suggested. In addition to the worst case design for L1, L2, and C, a nomograph for the selection of L1, L2, and C is given as a function of x.Keywords
