Abstract
Using the double probe method with a high frequency multistep pulse voltage, ionized gas was found to be formed in the after-glow generated by a giant pulse laser. The experimental results suggest that the gas becomes an isothermal plasma a few micro-seconds after breakdown. The atomic number of the gas seems to play an important role by the ionization by coherent light from the laser, and the higher the atomic number the more the gas can be ionized easily.
