Abstract
A soluble, DPN-specific malic dehydrogenase was isolated from cell-free extracts of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain H37Ra. The enzyme was purified about 15-fold through salt and ethanol fractionation. The enzyme is specific for L-malate; oxalacetate is the product of oxidation. Minor differences between this enzyme and the malic dehydrogenase of animal tissues with respect to Michaelis constants and pH optimum were noted. Keywords
