Pyoderma gangraenosum of the Eyelids

Abstract
We report a rare case of a 53-year-old female patient with pyoderma gangraenosum involving the upper and lower eyelid. The lesion began as a small rhagade and evolved within days to involve the eyelids as well as the cheek. The primary pustules grew to erosions and ulcers. Antibiotic treatment did not result in amelioration and laboratory tests did not reveal growth of any relevant microorganisms. After the clinical diagnosis of pyoderma gangraenosum a high-dose prednisone treatment was introduced to which the disease immediately responded. After 2 months, scarring of the involved skin was visible, but the eye itself had remained completely uninvolved with fully preserved visual acuity.
