I. THE OVARY IN EXPERIMENTAL HYPO- AND HYPERTHYROIDISMII. THE INFLUENCE OF EXPERIMENTAL HYPERTHYROIDISM ON GESTATION

Abstract
An apparent increase in the number of developing Graafian follicles and primordial ova may be demonstrated in the ovaries of cretin rabbits, converted into a condition of severe hyperthyroidism by the ingestion of thyroid substances. In rabbits with severe hyperthyroidism, experimentally induced, the processes of oestrus, ovulation, fertilization, migration and implantation take place, but in most instances the young are never born, resorption occurring instead. Resorption of all or many of the foetuses occurs during the latter f of pregnancy.
