Abstract
Abdominal blows or sudden external compression may result in a variety of complex and dangerous liver injuries. The nature of these injuries is discussed, their angiographic appearance and the principles of surgical treatment are described. Angiography is an extremely valuable adjunct in the management of such patients, in that it defines the type, location and extent of most of the lesions prior to operation. It is to be hoped that wider application of this procedure, which is apparently not being utilized to its fullest potential in some centers, will result in significant improvement in the high complication and mortality rates associated with blunt hepatic trauma. Keywords
