Effects of deuterium replacement on seed development: influence on excised embryos

Abstract
The effects of heavy water on the elongation of excised embryos of several seed species are noted. Under autotrophic conditions, increase in embryo size is small. Added sucrose ameliorates the repressive effects of deuterium on growth. This study shows that the species-specific effects of deuterium are separable from the environmental effects.
