Sex Attraction of the Carpenterworm Moth

Abstract
The sex attraction of adult carpenterworms, Prionoxystus robiniae (Peck), was investigated by catching males with a trap cage baited with a single virgin female moth. During their 1st 3 days of life, females attracted about 2/3 of all males caught. Attraction began at midday and ceased with nightfall. Trapped males were marked and released at 1/4- to 1-mile distances from the female. Recovery rates for these distances ranged from 25 to 7%. [The use of females to lure males into traps is discussed as a possible control measure.].
