Abstract
Presence of 7 chromosomes in soma of the [male], as contrasted with 10 in the germ-line, of S. pauciseta indicates that here as in S. coprophila certain chromosomes are eliminated from the soma during cleavage and that [male] more is eliminated in the d1 than in the [male] soma (latter possesses 8 chromosomes). Characteristics of unpaired chromosome in d soma support the earlier hypothesis that it is the homologue of the "precocious" chromosome, that the latter is a sex chro-mosome and that its peculiar behavior is connected with sex determination.
