Abstract
The Born total cross sections are calculated for the inelastic scattering of electrons by hydrogen atoms for the strong optically allowed transitions from to . The nine incident energies considered range from 0.546 ev to 1361 ev. In addition, the to and to transitions are considered. Bethe (multipole) cross sections are also calculated and found to reproduce the Born results down to low energies.
