Abstract
In two cases allergic contact dermatitis to 1-chloroacetophenone, the active ingredient in Chemical Mace, occurred, and in two others allergic contact sensitivity to this compound was inadvertently acquired. In addition, eight volunteers were exposed to a known amount of 1-chloroacetophenone; in five of these subjects allergic contact sensitivity developed. All sensitive subjects also had positive patch tests to the similar compound 1–1-dichloroacetophenone but were patch-test negative to other related compounds. Keywords
