Abstract
N. virens living in a glass tube in sea water usually shows negative reactions to tactile stimulation but is decidedly positive to the juices of clam. When a tactile stimulus was followed by the presentation of fragments of clam, 3 worms soon appeared to associate the two and learned to respond to touch in a more positive way. Finally, after 40 trials (for the most part given twice a day) the behavior of the worms following tactile stimulation alone could not be distinguished from that of worms which had been chemically stimulated by clam juices and were searching for food. After periods of discontinued training the average of the 3 learning curves dropped slightly. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
